Povertyrotti!

Holy cow, I have forgotten to post our things on this website. Anyways, here's a video we made about being poor. It's a celebration of poverty! Opera! Fat! Povertyrotti sings for you! Get it? Cause its like the famous opera singer, one of the three tenors, Pavarotti. But he's poor, you see....so he calls himself Povertyrotti! ISNT THAT HILARIOUS?!

Sock Cop!

We've started up a new web show! It's shorter than Melted and more focused on Sock Cop, cause it is called Sock Cop!

Sock Cop is about an old timey cop who pulled over a time travelling caveman. The caveman was none too happy about getting a ticket, so he blasts Sock Cop with a time travelling ray gun. Now Sock Cop is in the future (present?) but he keeps pulling people over. Hilarity ensures!

SMIRKIN GHERKIN MERKIN

Film Scramble 8 just happened! Here's our entry, entitled Smirkin' Gherkin Merkin.

From Wikipedia:

A smirk is a smile evoking insolence, scorn, or offensive smugness.

Gherkin is a term generally used to refer to a savoury pickled cucumber, particularly in the UK and Europe

Merkin is a pubic wig. Merkins were originally worn by prostitutes after shaving their genitalia, and are now used as decorative items, erotic devices, or in films, by both men and women.

That's right, everyone! We at MHP are always on the cutting age, ergo we have put some of our videos (most of which are available to watch for free on THIS very website) on VHS tapes, which we are very willing to sell to YOU!

We Won the Film Scramble & Other Exciting News!

Hey everybody!

I'm happy to say that our short film "Sunday Mail" won the Mobile Bay Film Scramble 7! There were a lot of great shorts, so it was really an honor to win this one. You can watch the "Director's Cut/Extended Version" below. Thanks to everybody who came out, and especially to Trey Lane and the Crescent Theater for putting these film scrambles on. It's mind-blowing how much filmmaking talent is around the Lower Alabama area, congrats to everyone who entered, not a bad one in the bunch.

Also, yesterday we did a recording session with George Lowe! Yes, the amazingly talented voice behind Space Ghost himself is officially the narrator for our upcoming flick "The Flat Stanleys: The Movie!" He's is super cool, funny and talented and we did our best not to fanboy out too much. I think we held it together pretty well. We have recorded a few parts for the movie, but we have a long way to go. Hopefully it will be done in the next few months in time to submit to some festivals and stuff.

SUNDAY MAIL - EXTENDED VERSION

News From the Melon Lab

Hey everybody!

Things have been a bit quiet for Melon Helmet on the internet, but behind the scenes we are working like CRAZY on pre-production for our new short film "The Flat Stanleys Movie" (Working Title). This is our most ambitious project ever by far, so we are working hard to make everything run as smoothly as possible.

Here's the skinny on the flick so far: its about our pseudo-real punk rock band The Flat Stanleys. There are some videos about the Stanleys already, but many things have changed. In the film, The Flat Stanleys are born and rise to stardom, things go awry and hilarity ensues. What is most exciting about it is the amount of local people we have involved. The great Uncle Henry will play a part, and also as many friends, local bands and acquaintances that we could fit into a 30 minute flick. Also a major announcement to come later about a hero of ours who is involved, and we couldn't be more excited!! See! I used TWO exclamation marks to show how EXCITED we are! Should I say "we" or "I"? "We" just sounds so pretentious...but that is neither here nor there.

Hopefully shooting will start over the next month or so, and when it is done we will try and get it into some film festivals and whatnot, but you guys will be the first to know about all the news, and expect some BTS clips to be posted as filming comes along.
